Itinerary

Arrival in Anuradhapura

Arrival:

You will be warmly welcomed by our Hayleys Travels representative who will guide you throughout the tour.

After completing the formalities at the airport, proceed to your first hotel in Anuradhapura.

En Route:

Visit Mannawari Temple and Muneshwaram Temple in Chilaw.

Muneshwaram Temple: One of the five major Shiva temples in Sri Lanka, this temple is significant in Tamil legend, where King Rama prayed to Shiva for forgiveness after killing the Brahmin king Ravana.

Mannawari Temple: Located about 6 km north of Chilaw, this temple is the first place where Lord Rama installed a Lingam as a remedy. The Lingam here is known as Ramalingam.

Chilaw City Tour:

Explore Chilaw, a small but lively town known for its fish market and St. Mary's Cathedral. The Munnesvaram Temple is a major pilgrimage site with a rich history dating back to the Ramayana era. The evening puja is a vibrant experience with pilgrims, drumming, and temple ceremonies.

Evening:

Check-in at Rajarata Hotel, Anuradhapura.

Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Anuradhapura to Jaffna

Morning:

Breakfast at the hotel.

Transfer to Jaffna, with a brief visit to Mannar en route.

Sri Pathrakali Amman Temple: A Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Bhadrakali, located near the Koneswaram Temple. It features classical Dravidian architecture and has been a place of pilgrimage since before the 11th century CE. The temple played a role during the Thiruvillah Festival procession and is closely linked to the Koneswaram Temple.

Evening:

Travel to Sigiriya

Morning:

Sightseeing Highlights:

Sigiriya Rock Fortress: Climb the 5th-century Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks. The "Lion Rock" rises 200 meters above the jungle and was the innermost stronghold of a 70-hectare fortified town. Explore the extensive gardens, moat, and rampart at the base of the rock. Don’t miss the world-renowned frescoes of the "Heavenly Maidens," painted in earth pigments on plaster and accessible via a spiral stairway.

Dambulla Cave Temple: Proceed to Dambulla to visit the cave temple complex donated by King Walagambahu in the 1st century BC. The Dambulla Cave Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, is renowned for its extensive painted walls and ceilings. The complex includes over 150 Buddha images, with the largest being a 14-meter rock-carved figure of the Buddha.

Evening:

Return to Fresco Water Villa for dinner.
